ICT Weekend
Twenty five pupils from Year 5 enjoyed an exciting ICT weekend at Kingswood Activity Centre in Norfolk at the beginning of May. .Apart from computing, the children took part in archery, aeroball, murder mystery, outdoor laser, nightline, mini olympics and quadbiking. During the weekend, using digital cameras they took photographs of each other, wrote captions and added a sound track to produce their own movie. This involved editing, adding special effects and combining the images to produce the final product which will be put on CD and given to all the pupils. For most of them it was their first taste of living away from home and they thought the weekend was ‘fantastic’ and ‘a great experience’.

Gosfield Maths
St Cedd’s won the Gosfield Junior Maths Challenge for the first time with a record-breaking score of 904 - over a hundred marks ahead of the rest of the field!
Fifteen schools from all over the county assembled at Gosfield to take part in this annual test of mathematics knowledge and flair. Not called a ‘challenge’ lightly, this day long test of concentration and ability comprised three parts: a maths trail, an eight part task and team problem solving exercise against the clock. As well as mathematical capability, teams were required to demonstrate excellent calculation, spacial awareness, numeracy, mental arithmetic, initiative and teamworking skills, as well as the ability to work quickly under pressure. Sophie remarked about the tasks, ‘Some of them were excruciatingly difficult and others were fun!’
The team consisting of Rebecca, Sophie, Kapil and Michael, were delighted with their winnings, which included certificates, shields, store vouchers and a ‘Murderous Maths’ book for the school library.
